What is the cost of the London Regional Passengers Committee established under Section 40 of the London Regional Transport Act 1984: what are the powers of the committee: and what steps are taken to publicise to passengers their rights under existing legislation.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Lucas of Chilworth)The cost of the Committee in 1985–86 was £178,903. The LRPC is empowered to consider matters, other than charges and service reductions, affecting the services and facilities provided by London Regional Transport and British Rail in and around London, and to make recommendations to LRT, BR or the Government. It also has particular functions in respect of proposals by LRT or BR to close a station or line. The rights of passengers are widely publicised through the media, various publications and leaflets and more particularly through posters which are displayed on LRT buses and at Underground and BR stations in the London area.
