HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 cc313-4W
Mrs. Ann Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the actual total savings in the first year of operation of the limited list system.

Mr. Hayhoe

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to the hon. Member for Orkney and Shetland (Mr. Wallace) on 25 February at column525.

Mrs. Ann Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has any plans to extend the limited list prescribing system; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hayhoe

No.

Mrs. Ann Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services for what purpose the savings accrued under the limited list prescribing system are to be used.

Mr. Hayhoe

Limited lists of drugs in certain therapeutic groups were introduced to restrain the continued high growth in the drugs bill. The estimated savings have been taken into account in the planned level of spending on the National Health Service.
