§ Mr. Chopeasked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) whether he is satisfied with the condition of the road surface on the M3 between junctions 8 and 9 (a) southbound and (b) northbound; and whether he will make a statement;
(2) on what date he expects the M3 southbound between junctions 8 and 9 to be re-opened;
(3) what is the nature of the remedial works being carried out on the southbound carriageway of the M3 between junctions 8 and 9; and to what extent his Department is to meet the costs.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyWork is being carried out as normal maintenance in accordance with the arrangements described in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Derby, North (Mr. Knight) on 2 May. The costs, in the main, will be borne by the contractors.
The road surface meets the Department's specifications.
The southbound carriageway was re-opened to traffic on 15 May. Work on the northbound carriageway is due to start on 28 May after the spring bank holiday and w ill be completed in July.
