§ Mr. Michael Forsythasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what magnitude of error in the employment census returns for a travel-to-work area would be regarded by his Department as sufficient to determine that that area should be included in the assisted area map, despite an original decision, based on the faulty returns, not to do so; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Butcher[pursuant to his reply, 15 May 1986, c. 502]: Although relative annual average unemployment was the main criterion used for assessing an area's need for assisted area status, a number of other factors were also taken into account. Any corrected unemployment rate would, therefore, have to be related to those other factors. The errors which have been discovered would not justify amendments to the assisted areas map introduced in November 1984.
