§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has anything to add to the statement he made to the House on 13 May about the numbers of British overseas citizens throughout the world.
§ Mr. HurdI very much regret that a mistake was made in the information that I gave to the House. The number of British overseas citizens throughout the world is, as I suggested, probably about two million, but I was misinformed about the percentage who possess only that form of citizenship. The figure is probably something over 200,000, and not about 800,000. I apologise for having unwittingly misled the House by giving the latter figure.
