§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has for the future funding of local insulation projects run by volunteer groups following the proposed abolition of single payments.
§ Mr. Newton[pursuant to his reply, 12 May 1986]: The Government fully recognise the value of draughtproofing work carried out by voluntary groups, and we are considering future arrangements for help with these in the context of assistance with energy conservation measures as a whole. In particular, we shall wish to ensure that there is an effective alternative to the current arrangements under which single payments of supplementary benefit can be made to cover the cost of draughtproofing materials.
