§ Mr. LangThe Department's employment statistics are analysed according to the 1980 Standard Industrial Classification, and estimates on this basis for Greater London are not separately available for dates prior to September 1981. Comparable estimates for Greater London based on the 1968 SIC are available from censuses of employment held in June 1978 and September 1981. These, together with those for December 1985, the latest date for which figures are available, are given in the following table. As there are slight differences in the definition of manufacturing industries under the 1968 and 1980 versions of the SIC, the figures for September 1981 are given on both bases for comparison.
