HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 cc334-5W
Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list those parliamentary constituencies currently being investigated by the Parliamentary Boundary Commission with a view to possible changes in their parliamentary boundaries; when he expects the Parlimentary Boundary Commission to report; if it is his intention to lay any orders to implement any changes during the lifetime of the current Parliament; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

A list of the 42 constituencies which are the subject of current interim review by the Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England was given in reply to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for South West Surrey (Mrs. Bottomley) on 24 February at Cols. 417–418. I understand that the Commission hopes to submit its final recommendations towards the end of this year, subject to the possible need to hold local inquiries and publish revised recommendations in the light of those inquiries. My right hon. Friend will then comply with his statutory duty to lay the commission's report before Parliament as soon as may be after its receipt, together with the draft of an Order in Council for implementing the commission's recommendations, with or without modifications.
