§ Mr. JoplingEnvironmental objectives are now fully integrated into the policy areas for which I am responsible. To underline my commitment, the Agriculture Bill currently before Parliament contains a clause which will place upon me and my successors a statutory duty to endeavour to achieve a reasonable balance between the inter-related needs of the countryside; agriculture, conservation, socio-economic interests and recreation.
