§ Mr. TraceyThe Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission was prepared to purchase Monkton House and open it to the public, provided the necessary funds could be found. A public appeal was launched and an application for grant made to the National Heritage Memorial Fund. The trustees of the NHMF decided against allocating money for this purpose, and on 25 April the HBMC announced that it was unable to proceed with the purchase.
