HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 cc586-7W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the amounts in constant terms for each of the last 10 years for which figures were available for expenditure on education in (a) the maintained sector and (b) the private sector, in Wales, both expressed in total and per pupil; and if he will also express the figures for the private sector as a percentage of the figures for the maintained sector.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Information is not collected about total expenditure on education in the private sector.

In the maintained sector, the bulk of the expenditure is incurred by local education authorities. The relevant figures (comprising both current and capital expenditure) for spending by local authorities in Wales, with expenditure on the schools sector shown separately and in terms of provision per pupil, are as follows (at 1984–85 prices using the GDP deflators).
