§ Mr. Sternasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will list the major differences between the working conditions, as laid down by either contract or practice, in so far as they are known to him, of first-year teachers in secondarty schools in England, France and West Germany;
(2) if he will list the starting salaries, in so far as they are known to him as expected on 1 April 1986, of first-year teachers in secondary schools in England, France and West Germany, expressed in pounds sterling;
(3) if he will list the maximum attainable salaries of secondary school teachers in the state sector, with no additional responsibility allowances, after five years' teaching in England, France and Germany, in so far as the information is available to him, and expressed in pound sterling.
§ Sir Keith JosephThis information is not currently available but the European Commission is funding a study of teachers' pay and conditions of service in the 10 member countries the report from this study is expected later this year when I would propose to write to my hon. Friend.
