§ Sir George YoungThe 1981 English house condition survey showed that for northern England (the north-west, northern and Yorkshire and Humberside regions) 7.8 per cent. of dwellings were unfit, 4.9 per cent. lacked at least one basic amenity and 5.7 per cent. were in serious disrepair*. More up-to-date information will be available from the 1986 survey to be started this autumn.
