HC Deb 19 March 1986 vol 94 cc235-6W
38. Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any proposals for increasing the amount of work available to the construction industry.

Sir George Young

Yes, through the continuation of our economic policies. By controlling inflation and public spending we are succeeding in creating the right climate for investment and growth. In 1985, construction output was over £22 billion (at constant 1980 prices)—11 per cent. up in real terms on the 1981 level. Output for the private sector has increased by over 20 per cent. in real terms during that period.
