HC Deb 18 March 1986 vol 94 c182W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Paymaster General what information he has available on the exposure risks for high-noise levels generated from the industrial and commercial use of motor mowers, chain saws, circular saws and other power tools.

Mr. Trippier

Noise levels produced by power tools at the operator position vary considerably, depending on the individual machine, method of use and position of the operator. For the specific machines mentioned, levels generally exceed 90 dB(A). Risk of hearing damage depends on the adequacy of any ear protection used and the length of exposure.
