asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of successful appeals against refusal to pay statutory sick pay in each year from 1983 to 1985; and how many appeals against refusal to pay statutory sick pay were received by his Department in each year from 1983 to 1985 for the county of Leicestershire and the city of Leicester, respectively.

A special count in the four local offices in the city of Leicester indicates that in 1984 only one appeal on a statutory sick pay question was lodged and in 1985 three appeals were lodged although only one was heard and decided in that year.
