asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he proposes any new initiatives to encourage the growth of manufacturing industries in the north-west.

Many parts of the north-west Region are designated as assisted areas and thus stand to benefit from my Department's various measures of assistance. We shall of course be monitoring the new arrangements introduced late in 1984 to ensure that the maximum benefit is gained from the money put in.
