HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 c341W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in respect of those definitive maps and statements for which he has issued a direction to abandon a review under section 55(1) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the surveying authorities concerned have now completed the duty imposed on them by section 55(5) of the Act to modify the maps and statements to give effect to his decisions and to changes made by the draft revised definitive map which were not opposed; and, where the duty has not been complied with by any particular authority, what steps he proposes to take to ensure that it is completed during 1986.

Mrs. Rumbold

There is no requirement for surveying authorities to notify the Department of modifications made to their definitive maps and statements to give effect to such matters. My right hon. Friend has no power to require that the duty be fulfilled within a specified period. We are, however, exploring the possibility of arranging meetings with surveying authorities to discuss progress being made generally in implementing the definitive map review procedures in the 1981 Act.
