HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 c325W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of children on Anglesey in primary education speak Welsh as their principal language.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Assessments of fluency made by head teachers of primary schools in Anglesey in September 1984 indicate that Welsh was the home language of 35.3 per cent. of all pupils. A further 25.1 per cent. whose home language was not Welsh could speak Welsh fluently.
