HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 c356W
Mr. Tom Cox

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the number of horses slaughtered in each of the last five years; and what meat has been sold for human consumption.

Mr. Gummer

These statistics are not collected. Little horsemeat is produced for human consumption in the United Kingdom. However, in 1985 5,545 tonnes of horsemeat were exported from the United kingdom to the member states of the European Community.
