HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 cc348-9W
31. Dr. Michael Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what study his Department conducts of how energy prices paid by British industry compare with prices paid by similar industries in competing countries; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Walker

My Department keeps a close watch on comparative industrial energy prices. United Kingdom interruptible gas prices are the lowest in Europe, and firm gas prices amongst the lowest. United Kingdom electricity prices, except those for some large users at high load factor, are generally favourable compared with those in Europe apart from France, where prices reflect lower nuclear and hydro-electric costs.
