§ 35. Mr. Willie W. Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recent representations he has had from the Scottish and Open Universities, respectively, concerning their future funding: and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WaldenEach of the Scottish universities made a detailed submission to the University Grants Committee last autumn, as part of the committee's major review of funding for the period 1986–87 to 1989–90. Four of them sent copies of the main parts of their submissions to my right hon. Friend. The UGC intends to announce the first outcomes of its review in May.
The Open University Visiting Committee advised my right hon. Friend in November 1985 about the university's funding. My right hon. Friend made additional funds available and the university was advised of its revised grants on 7 January this year. Copies of the visiting committee's report and of the grants letter were placed in the Library on 14 January.
