§ Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much was paid to the owners of Birlsbury Wood on the borders of Hampshire and Dorset under the provisions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for not clearing the woodland; under which sections of the Act; and how much has been paid in total in similar payments made under the financial guidelines of this Act in the past 12 months.
§ Mrs. Rumbold[pursuant to her reply, 27 June 1986, c. 348–9]: I am advised by the Nature Conservancy Council that during 1985–86 it paid a total of £1,967,715 in respect of management agreements made under section 15 of the Countryside Act 1968. Approximately £300,000 of this total related to woodland agreements.
