§ 56. Mrs. Shieldsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress of the Nature Conservancy Council in the notification and renotification of sites of special scientific interest.
§ Mrs. RumboldI am advised by the Nature Conservancy Council that on 31 March 1986, 2,075 SSSIs notified under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 had been renotified under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. A further 844 new sites had been notified under the 1981 Act.
The NCC has substantially completed the renotification of sites in Wales. It expects to achieve substantial completion in England by March 1987 and in Scotland by July 1987.
