§ Sir George YoungThe 1981 English house condition survey showed that out of 18.1 million dwellings 1.1 million were unfit, 0.9 million lacked basic amenities and 1 million required repairs costing more than £7,000. A more up to date picture will be provided by the 1986 survey which starts this September.
