HL Deb 23 June 1986 vol 477 c144WA
The Earl of Shrewsbury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, following reduction in university funding and the proposed rationalisation of veterinary education, they will assure the veterinary profession that due attention will be paid to the adequacy of farm animal teaching material, and to the social and economic effects of any possible closures of veterinary schools.

The Earl of Swinton

The social and economic effects of any possible closures of veterinary schools and the geographic distribution and availability of farm animal species for teaching and research purposes are among the factors to be taken into account by the UGC working party which is currently examining the scope for the rationalisation of veterinary education. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is represented on the Working Party.
