HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 cc59-60W
Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he proposes to take to inform Okehampton town council of the results of Wimpey Laboratories tests into toxic soils on the site of the proposed Okehampton bypass route; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

These soil investigations are to assist the design and construction of the road. I will arrange for a copy of the report from Wimpey Laboratories, which is expected next month, to be placed on deposit at the Okehampton offices of the borough of west Devon, where anyone interested will be able to study it.

Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will publish the results of the soil tests being undertaken into mineralised deposits by Wimpey Laboratories on the site of the proposed Okehampton bypass.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

As indicated in my reply to the hon. Member's earlier question, the report of the soil investigations will be made available for public scrutiny in Okehampton.

Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what tests were conducted into the extent of mineralised land containing arsenic along the site of the proposed southern route for the Okehampton bypass prior to the 1979 public inquiry.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

I refer the hon. Member to my reply given to his earlier question on this topic on 27 March 1986, at column 566.
