HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 c11W
Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list, by county, all the applications for gipsy sites in England which he has called in for his determination; if he will state in each case the date when he called in the applications; and whether in each case the proposed sites have or have not been the subject of a public inquiry.

Mr. Tracey

There have been two such applications called in during the present Parliament. They are:

  1. (1) in Oxfordshire: application called in on 12 October 1983, and a public local inquiry held on 9 October 1984; and
  2. (2) in Hampshire: application called in on 18 April 1986, and a public local inquiry arranged for 1 July 1986.

Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment on what date he expects to make a decision on the proposal for a gipsy site at Hinksey Hill in Oxfordshire; and on what date he called in the proposal.

Mr. Tracey

My right hon. Friend hopes to issue his decision very soon. The Oxfordshire county council applied for planning permission for the gipsy site to the then Secretary of State on 15 August 1984, following a direction issued by him on 12 October 1983.
