HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 c1W
Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when all the necessary translations of general certificate examination syllabuses into Welsh will be complete; how many of the translation staff of the Welsh Office have been seconded for this purpose; when this was done; and what proportion of the work has now been done.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The assistance being provided by the Welsh Office relates to the translation of those subject syllabuses corresponding to the 10 training manuals already translated into Welsh. They number some 24 syllabuses. Work is in hand on all the syllabuses so far received from the WJEC. The aim is to complete the translations by the end of July so that they can be available to schools by the beginning of the next school year. One member of the Welsh Office translation unit is coordinating the work.
