HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 cc9-10W
Mr. Mates

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the contracts, with the subject of the assignment, awarded to management consultancy or accounting firms by his Department in 1985, with the name of the consultants concerned.

liaison arrangements with the local community when deciding whether to approve applications for authorisation of opencast coalmining sites.

Mr. Tracey

Local liaison committees can provide a useful forum to deal with any matters arising in connection with mineral operations and provide an opportunity for views and information to be exchanged between the operator and those most closely affected; their establishment is to be encouraged. However, the setting up of a liaison committee and the terms under which it operates are essentially matters for local negotiation and agreement.
