HC Deb 18 June 1986 vol 99 c534W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he can give details of funding made to the Warwickshire county council for educational purposes during 1984–85; and what will the amount be in 1985–86.

Mr. Chris Patten

Government specific grants to Warwickshire county council to support expenditurere on education totalled £8.6 million in 1984–85. This figure is based on outturn information supplied by the authority. Outturn information is not yet available for 1985–86, but the equivalent figure is estimated to be some £9.1 million. Both these figures include the grant paid to support the authority's expenditure on mandatory student awards, which was £7.5 million in 1984–85 and 0.7 million in 1985–86.

In addition to specific grant, Warwickshire receives rate support grant. This is paid in respect of all its services and it is not possible to identify a particular element as being for educational purposes.
