§ Mr. Lordasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now publish the report by the Police Complaints Authority on access by police officers to information stored on the police national computer and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HurdThe report was published yesterday. It contains recommendations designed to strengthen the 539W control of access by police officers to information stored on the police national computer. My Department will draw the report to the attention of all chief officers of police. In addition, its recommendations are being studied by the Police National Computer Board to determine what further action is required, in consultation with the Association of Chief Police Officers and with Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, to ensure that misuse of the computer facility does not occur again.
I take this opportunity to record my thanks to the Police Complaints Authority for its valuable examination of this matter.
