HC Deb 16 June 1986 vol 99 c473W
72. Mr. Hayes

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what action he is taking to improve the recruitment of scientists into the Civil Service.

Mr. Luce

The Civil Service Commission and Departments continue to mount a persistent and sustained recruitment effort to attract scientists into the service. In addition to the recent improvements in scientists' pay, the Treasury is carrying out consultations on substantial improvements in starting salaries for graduates entering the science group with good honours degrees.

Additionally my Department is undertaking a review of the structure of the science group. A major concern will be to devise a structure and career development package to make the science group more attractive.
