§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report the cost of the refunds due to the miscalculation of tax relief given on any lump sum exceeding £50,000 paid since 6 April 1982; how many individuals are involved; and what is the average refund due.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[pursuant to his reply, 9 June 1986, c. 76]: It is not known centrally how many people may be entitled to a refund, or what the average refund due will be, but only lump sums over £50,000 are affected and there are thought to be relatively very few of these.
