Mr. Tom Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many alcoholic rehabilitation centres there are in London; if he will list them; and how they are funded.

Mr. Whitney

We are aware of the following residential rehabilitation facilities for problem drinkers in London:

  • B-Sharp (Bow)
  • Downham Lodge (N 16)
  • Grieg House Alcoholic Assessment Unit (Poplar)
  • Hartley House Alcohol Project (Ealing)
  • Milliken House Alcohol Project (Ealing)
  • Spitalfields Crypt (E1)
  • West London Cyrenians (W11)
  • Alcoholics Recovery Project — facilities in NW1, SW 12, SE5, SW4 (2), SE6 (2), SE4
  • Mount Carmel Hostel for Recovering Alcoholics
    • 90
  • (Streatham)
  • St. Luke's Alcoholic Rehabilitation Centre (SE11)
  • The Richmond Fellowship (Purley)
  • Turning Point (Camberwell)
  • Charter Clinic (SW3)
  • The Oakhurst Centre (SW7)

We understand that there are some 38 non-residential facilities in London run by non-statutory bodies which offer a range of services including, in some cases, a rehabilitation service. Long-term support is also provided through out-patient facilities of the National Health Service. Information on the funding of individual facilities is not held centrally.
