HC Deb 04 June 1986 vol 98 cc568-9W
Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what response he is making to the world conservation strategy document.

Mrs. Rumbold

The Government welcomed and endorsed the principles of the world conservation strategy when it was published in 1980. My hon. Friend the Minister for Environment, Countryside and Local Government is attending a conference in Ottawa called by the authors of the strategy to assess it six years after its publication.

The Government have published a report — "Conservation and Development; The British Approach" — setting out the ways in which the United Kingdom has approached the issues raised by the strategy. Copies have been made available in the Vote office.
