§ Mr. Giles Shaw"Police Statistics 1985–86 Estimates", published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, show that the estimated net expenditure of Thames Valley police per thousand population was £37,864 in the financial year 1985–86, compared with the average of £45,135 for forces outside London in England and Wales and £54,352 for all forces in England and Wales. Both these averages exclude the Merseyside police, for whom no figures are available.
