Mr. A. Cecil Walkerasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if he will list the amount of 457W compensation paid to individuals in respect of claims for compensation in relation to incidents since 1970 attributable to Republican terrorist groups involving trains, the railway line and railway property;
(2) if he will list, with dates, those incidents since 1970 attributable to Republican terrorist groups involving trains, the railway line and railway property on the route from Belfast to Dublin which have given rise to payments of, or claims for, compensation; and how much in monetary terms has been paid for such incidents (a) to Northern Ireland Railways and (b) to Coras lompair Eireann.

Compensation amounting to £4,529,007 (£3,527,584 to NI Railways and £1,001,423 to CIE) has been paid in respect of 62 claims. In the remaining 19 cases the claims were abandoned, withdrawn, refused or payments have yet to be made.
