asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish figures for 1983–84, 1984–85 and 1985–86, showing local authority expenditure on personal social services, distinguishing between wages/salaries and administration.

The available information is given in the table. The 1984–85 figures are still provisional. The 1985–86 gross current expenditure figure is based on local authorities' present estimates of expenditure in that year and cannot be broken down into employee costs. etc.
