§ Sir George YoungLocal authorities responded to the inquiry on the understanding that their figures would be used only in aggregate form and not published by the Department at the individual authority level. In the northern region, the inquiry indicated that 302,300 dwellings require renovation at an estimated total cost of £1,426 million.
