HC Deb 25 July 1986 vol 102 cc732-3W
Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider a ban on the use of South African products in all health service facilities.

Mr. Hayhoe

Under the Government's public purchasing policy health authorities are expected to seek best value for money in their purchasing decisions and to adopt procedures compatible with international obligations under the European Community purchasing directives and GATT Agreement. There is no specific provision in National Health Service purchasing guidance for the inclusion or exclusion of particular countries of origin or sources of supply and I have at present no plans to change this situation.
