HC Deb 25 July 1986 vol 102 c615W
Mr. Tim Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the outcome of the Internal Market Council held on 24 July.

Mr. Alan Clark

The Council, which I chaired, adopted four measures in the Presidency action programme on completing the internal market. These were directives on training standards for general medical practitioners; procedures for the mutual recognition of type approval for telecommunications terminal equipment, the harmonisation of member states' requirements on the controls and indicators of agricultural and forestry tractors; and proposals for co-operation between higher education and industry for advanced training relating to new technologies (COMETT). The Council also adopted revised origin rules for trade between Spain and Portugal and made useful progress on other Internal Market Council proposals, notably on a package of five measures on the marketing and testing of pharmaceutical products and on labelling of noise emitted by domestic appliances. The Council welcomed a report by the Commission on progress towards the implementation of the single administration document on 1 January 1988.
