HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 cc376-7W
16. Mr. Hirst

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from membes of the public about opening hours in premises licensed to sell liquor; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

Since 19 May, when my right hon. Friend announced the Government's support in principle for reform of permitted opening hours of licensed premises in England and Wales, we have received 22 letters from members of the public and 14 letters from hon. Members on behalf of constituents expressing views on the licensing hours. Of the 36, 22 supported relaxations in the law and 14 were opposed.
