§ 54. Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to empower rent officers to fix fair rents in all instances where housing benefit is paid.
§ Sir George YoungRent officers already have powers to register fair rents in respect of regulated tenancies, on application from the landlord, tenant or local authority. However, my right hon. Friend has no proposals to introduce compulsory rent registration for such tenancies where the tenant is in receipt of housing benefit.
