In 1985, 799 redundancies affecting 10 or more workers were notified to the Manpower Services Commission as due to occur in the Dundee jobcentre area. Offers of regional selective assistance made to businesses in Dundee city in 1985 were associated with the creation of some 390 jobs and the safeguarding of a further 2,090 jobs. Approvals of new regional development grant were associated with the creation of 850 jobs, although some projects may have received both forms of assistance. Many jobs are also created without such assistance.
