asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will report progress in implementing the international standard for coach roof strength on passenger coaches.

The UN:ECE regulation on coach roof strength is expected to be published soon. We are consulting interested organisations with a view to applying the standard to new coaches registered in Britian and introducing other new safety measures, including the provision of seat belts on front seats and the use of fire retardant materials.
