HC Deb 07 July 1986 vol 101 c28W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the costs of replacement work arising from the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive after the Rutherglen explosion.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The British Gas Corporation is responsible for the safe operation of its pipeline network. It is awaiting the outcome of the fatal accident inquiry into the Rutherglen explosion—which began on 23 June—before deciding what action it should take in response to the findings of that inquiry and the report of the Health and Safety Executive.
