HC Deb 07 July 1986 vol 101 c74W
Mr. Ryman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what assessment he has made of the effect on patient services over the past two years of recent losses of clinical academic staff.

Mr. Whitney

The Government's observations on the third report of 1985–86 ("UGC Cuts and Medical Services") of the Select Committee on the Social Services were published by the Committee in February 1986 (HC242). The conclusion was that the changes in UGC funding had not prevented a significant overall increase in the level of provision of National Health Service clinical services. The latest available evidence gives no grounds for suggesting that this assessment should be revised.
