HL Deb 02 July 1986 vol 477 c1022WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress they have been able to make following the visit of Sir Geoffrey Howe to Zimbabwe towards the release of Philip Hartlebury and Colin Evans, who are still detained in Zimbabwe although acquitted by a court.

Baroness Young

Since my right honourable and learned friend's visit to Harare at the beginning of January 1985, the British High Commission have continued to make the Zimbabwean authorities aware of our hope that Mr Hartlebury and Mr Evans can be released soon. My honourable friend the Minister of State reinforced this message during her visit to Zimbabwe in June. The appeal of Mr Hartlebury and Mr Evans against their detention is due to be heard on 30th July.
