§ Mr. John Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in pursuance to his reply to the hon. Member for Luton, North of 27 January, he will make it his policy that funds will be granted to sporting organisations on the Sports Council without recourse to him in any case.
§ Mr. TraceyDecisions on the allocation of funds to sporting organisations are made by the Sports Council. Only funding in excess of £0.2 million is referred to the Secretary of State as required by the Council's financial memorandum. However, the Sports Council is required under article 3 of its royal charter to have regard to any statements of Government policy which the Secretary of State may issue.
